Kainchi Dham, located at a distance of 20 km from Nainital, is popular among tourists as well as devotees. The place is called ‘Kainchi’ because of the two sharp hairpin turns on the road. Kainchi Dham is a beautiful ashram on the Nainital-Almora road that offers spiritual solace in the lap of nature. This modern pilgrimage center was founded in the early sixties by a saint Neem Karoli Baba. Maharaj Neem Karoli, along with Shri Purnanand of Kainchi village, built a temple dedicated to Hanuman. There is a small temple near the Hanuman temple and an ashram dedicated to Sadhu Prem Baba and Sombari Maharaj. There is a cave near the Kainchi temple where Baba Neem Karoli used to meditate and pray. The ashram has gained recognition due to visits by Apple founder and CEO Steve Jobs and Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg. Meditation programs and spiritual camps are organized at Kainchi Dham, which attract visitors from all over the world. People also attend the fair held every year on June 15. More than one lakh people are fed during the fair.
